The Diner

The Diner is a popular lunch place in the heart of Soho. It is a cool American Diner that on a Friday is exceptionally busy come One O’Clock. So I decided to go on a Friday. Unsurprisingly it was very busy so I sat at the bar and took it all in.

Time of Visit – Lunch, 8th November

Cost of Chips – £3.10

The service was good and the Oreo milkshake that I indulged in was so thick it nearly filled me up, it was also delicious. The American theme was consistent everywhere from the memorabilia behind the bar to the red booths and not forgetting the basket which the chips arrived in.

So, how were the chips?

The Diner Chips

I ordered the ‘Cajun Spiced Fat Fries’. They were not fries, they were definitely chips but that is part of the American culture coming through in the menu. As I said they were presented nicely but the basket had chips left in it when we left. This is because they wee inconsistently cooked. Some were harder than others, they also did not taste fresh, they tasted frozen. Finally and what ruined them for me was that the Cajun spice didn’t taste like part of the chip, it tasted like an afterthought.

Chips: 2/10

How were the toilets?

The toilets were nice, busy but so was the restaurant. They complimented the styling perfectly and although not the best equipped with regards to drying hands I walked in and was pleased. The glitter in the tiles does make you open your eyes.

Toilets: 7/10

Overall: 5/10

I have upped the score a little because although the chips I had were not great everything else was good, there are better diners but there are worse too
